In Spring of 2012, Gepetto won a battle at the local monthly “Hungry Hungry Hiphop”, and the prize was the recording and mixing of a four track EP by engineer/artist Dust. He quickly wrote four songs to meet a tight deadline, realizing later that they encapsulated his life experience over the last two years. They tell the story of a lost love which comes back to haunt, punctuated by periods of new beginnings. The four tracks on the EP represent the four seasons, and reflect the cyclical nature of life’s ups and downs. From the opening banger “Brand New Day” to the soul-crushing “Don’t Want to Lose You,” the Fireflies EP is full of story telling, both good and heavy vibes, and classic cadences over Gepetto’s signature brand of boom bap beats. You might want to put it on repeat all year round.
