This song is inspired by the simple phrase "when the wolves come out." I interpreted the "wolves" to be the greed, anger, and other negative impulses that come out when we feel threatened.

There may be people we see in our day-to-day who are living a different life than us, dealing with issues we can't imagine -- poverty, mental health, addiction. They may do things to survive in their situation that are aggressive, even violent. While violence is never acceptable, we can acknowledge that hurt people hurt people, and understand that the same reactive anger that may drive the wolves to come out in them is present in all of us, and in our entire system that has failed them in the first place.
